Summary

Tansor is located on the east bank of the River Nene. The village consists of a single long street, apparently always with houses on the north side only. The manor belonged to the Crown in the 11th century becoming part of the honour of Clare in the 12th century. The church was rebuilt during this period. The manor and parish were split into two in the latter part of the 12th century and, though the parishes were later reunited, the two manors continued. In 1673, 42 families were recorded in the Hearth Tax returns, but only 37 in 1801.
