Full Description
Town hall. 1809. Squared coursed limestone with ashlar façade and slate roof. Rectangular plan with ancillary offices at ground floor and council chamber at first floor. Symmetrical main fron: 3-window range. Centre bay breaks forward slightly with pediment over. Central, first floor, Venetian style sash window with glazing bars and gauged stone heads with keyblocks. Two 6-panel doors to far left and right are under similar heads and have fanlights with glazing bars. Raised string course between floors. Shallow gabled roof behind parapet wall. Pediment has ball finial and oval plaque with Borough insignia. Elevations to left and right each of 2-window range to ground and first floor with some sash windows with glazing bars under wood lintels, and some blank openings. Rear elevation of 2-window range, at first floor, of sash windows, and 3-window range of C20 casements at ground floor. Interior: council chamber ceiling has central plaster moulding and branch chandelier. (Buildings of England: Northamptonshire, p.259).

Town Hall, Market Square
Built in 1808 - it is a neat stone building (Whellan).Small, plain detached building of two storeys The hall was built on the site of an earlier building which had fallen into decay. The building is symmetrical and based on a very simple classical design. The structure is still in use as a council chamber and public room and is a listed structure. Film , photo 16 (1)
The old hall was demolished in the 19th century and replaced by a new town hall, erected in1808 on the eastern part of the market place. (2)
