Building record 1624/8/2 - Irthlingborough Town Council Offices

Dovecote, now offices. Probably late C17, altered late C19.

{1} Dovecote, now offices. Probably late C17, altered late C19. Regular coursed limestone with pantile roof. Rectangular plan, now 2 storeys. 2-window range at ground floor of C19 two-light stone mullion windows. Central plank door in moulded stone surround. Ashlar gable parapets and ashlar stack at end. Rear elevation has 2-window range of late C19/C20 casement windows. Interior: has exposed nesting boxes on staircase. Open fireplace with bressumer may have been reset in late C19. Probably dovecote to Manor House and Upper Manor (q.v.) or earlier house, now demolished.

{3}Dovecote, Station Road. Late 17th century dovecote on Station Road, altered in late 19th century and now converted into offices for Irthlingborough Town Council. Has also been a library (local knowledge). Film 2, photo 14.
