Summary

Milestone. Probably mid C19. Limestone ashlar. Rectangular stone with moulded cornice surmounted by a ball finial. Forming a pair with milestone at SP 5940 7789 (q.v.) and similar to milestones at SP 6170 7813 and SP 6168 7814, Stanford-on-Avon Road, Elkington (q.v.).

Full Description

{1} Milestone. Probably mid C19. Limestone ashlar. Rectangular stone with moulded cornice surmounted by a ball finial. Inscription "Stanford on Avon. co. Northampton 3/4, Stanford Hall, co. Leicester 1, Swinford 2, Rugby 7 1/2, Lutterworth 5 1/2". Erected adjacent to Stanford-on-Avon parish boundary. Forming a pair with milestone at SP 5940 7789 (q.v.) and similar to milestones at SP 6170 7813 and SP 6168 7814, Stanford-on-Avon Road, Elkington (q.v.).

{3} On each road into the parish of Stanford On Avon are parish boundary markers. They comprise fine piers with finials, and the pair on the Yelvertoft Road are noted as especially fine examples, erected after 1839.
