Summary

Carriage arch to outer court of Holdenby Palace. Built in 1583 for Sir Christopher Hatton. Built of limestone ashlar and squared coursed lias.

Full Description

{1} Carriage arch to outer court of Holdenby Palace. Datestone 1583. Built for Sir Christopher Hatton. Limestone ashlar and squared coursed lias. Central archway has stepped voissoir with scroll pediment above surmounted by square obelisk. Flanking niches in bottom stage. One of pair of carriage arches. Site scheduled as Ancient Monument. (q.v. Carriage arch approx 130 metres north-west of Holdenby House.)
