{5} Internally the tower floor was some 35cm below external ground level and was paved with a floor of large flagstones which were 10-15cm thick with irregular lower surfaces. The north east corner of the tower was occupied by a massive stone 2.1 x 0.9m and 15cm thick. A brick built flue, presumably part of a 19th century heating system connecting the furnace to the internal brick chimney in the north west corner of the tower was also seen.
