Full Description

{1} A late medieval gatehouse still stands on the north-west side of the farmyard and thus the house and farm may be on the site of a moated medieval manor house on the south-west side of the village.

{2} The standing gatehouse is considered to be late medieval in date with C19th additions. It is Listed Grade II.

{3} Gatehouse. Late medieval, much altered C19. Coursed squared ironstone, red brick, tile roof, stone end stack to right. 2-storey, one-window range. Gateway flanked by flat buttresses has timber lintel. Upper storey has front and back walls of brick, probably replacing timber-framing and C19 loft door to front with segmental head under small gable. Stone end walls, stone-coped gables with kneelers. Carriageway has door to left with chamfered stone jambs. 2-centred arched head with keyblock. This gives access to stone spiral staircase to upper storey which has stone fireplace with chamfered and cambered head.

{6} Undated photo, also photo dated November 1974;

{8} Gateway as described. In fair condition. See GP AO/62/75/2 from W.
