Full Description

{2} Scheduled: SAM No.6.

{3} Medieval bridge, possibly a C13th packhorse bridge. 4.5 ft wide with two pointed arches. No documentary sources other than a reference to 'a medieval packhorse bridge'.

{4} Photogrammatic survey of Packhorse Bridge at Charwelton undertaken by Engineering Surveys Ltd, Northamptonshire County Council. All elevations.

{5} Medieval packhorse bridge; two pointed arches 4ft wide.

{6} Packhorse bridge in outstanding condition. Probably C14th/C15th. Photographs.

{9} Packhorse bridge, now a foot bridge. Probably C15th. Coursed dressed ironstone. Two pointed arches, central cut-water on up-stream side, low stone parapet with string course.

{12}{15}{16} Quite an elaborate bridge to cross a minor stream. Of local ironstone construction with two gothic arches, the bridge dates from medieval times and is only wide enough for one horse to cross at a time.
