Full Description

{1} House. Late C17. Coursed ironstone rubble, tile roof, brick stack to right of centre. L-plan. 2 storeys and attic; 3 bays. C20 gabled stone porch in second bay from left has 4-centred moulded hood arch and ribbed plank door. 2-light casement window with wood lintel to left. 2-light stone-mullioned window with straight moulded stone hood to right. One-light window with moulded stone surround in second bay from right and C20 three-light casement window with wood lintel in right bay. C20 three-light casement window with wood lintels on first floor. Coped gable ends with kneelers. Right side has 3-light stone mullioned windows with square hoods to ground and first floor and similar two-light window to attic. Two 2-light stone-mullioned windows to ground floor on left side, 3-light stone-mullioned window to first floor and similar 2-light window to attic. 2- and 3-light stone-mullioned windows to ground floor at rear. Wing extending from right side at rear C17, similar materials, 2 storeys and attic; 2 bays. 2-light stone-mullioned window in left bay. Two C20 one-light windows with plain stone surrounds to right. Canted oriel window of 5 lights with stone mullions in right bay on the first floor, 2-light stone-mullioned window in left bay. Coped gable end with kneelers. Interior: stop-chamfered beams in ground and first floor rooms. Two C17 fireplaces with moulded stone four-centred arches in ground floor rooms, and two similar fireplaces on the first floor, all said to have been bought in c.1900. The house is said to have been restored c.1900 when some of the C17 stone-mullioned windows were also bought in. A set of photographs of "Godfrees" dated 1894, 1910 and 1918 is preserved at the house.
