In the later 19th century it was owned by a succession of doctors to the village and the house grew to twice its current size. The extensions were demolished in the mid-20th century reducing the house to its original core. It was subdivided and in multiple tenancies during WWII. One well-known tenant in the 1940s was Stanley Unwin.
