Abstract/Summary

Holly House, first named c1900, was built probably just before the English Civil War and is first met with in documents of 1674. A relatively standard two-unit plan, encountered locally in the Banbury region, this example has been the home of yeoman farmers and then a long line of village doctors. The house is generally much as it was originally built, albeit updated, but it has lost a handsome brick Victorian wing built 1873/85. Its lands have been subdivided although it retains an adjacent cottage of the 18th century with a stable and coach-house of c1885 as outbuildings. Holly House remains arguably the oldest private home in Long Buckby.
