Full Description
{1} Tower windmill. There is a passing reference to its use as an observation post during WWII, probably by the Home Guard.
{2} Windmill. c.1800, ceased work c.1900, converted to house c.1920 when top floor demolished. Brick with ribbed metal roof. 6 storeys; windows have rendered surrounds and C20 casements. C20 brick porch on south side has doorway with concrete lintel and plank door. Interior not inspected. Included for group value. (G. Starmer, Check List of Northamptonshire Wind and Watermills. Bulletin of Industrial Archeology C.B.A. Group 9, No.12, April 1970).
{4} Built in 1800 for milling corn, it is of red brick, and was originally eight storeys high. This tower mill had a conical cap carrying four sails, which drove three pairs of stones and two dressing machines. Milling ceased in the 1890s. About 1910, the sails, cap and machinery were removed and the height by one storey. After being used as a store for many years, in the 1970s a dome roof, originally made for a grain solo, was fitted and the mill converted to a residence.
