Building record 638/9/1 - Abbey Building

National school, now restaurant. 1826 with additions of 1870. Coursed squared ironstone rubble. Machine tile roof. Stone end stacks. Coped stone gables with kneelers. Complex plan with 2 cross-wings. 2 storeys. 4-window range. Entrance on left has pointed arched doorway. Ground floor has wide wood mullioned and transomed windows. Hood moulds and label stops. Similar first floor windows. 2 pointed arched windows throughout first and attic floors in gabled bays. 2 projecting wings on right end. On :> l priory building illustrated in the Gentleman's Magazine for November 1826, page 401 and reported as repeating many features with slight variations. Interior not inspected.
