Full Description
{1} 2 houses. Reputedly 1630. Limestone ashlar with Welsh slate roofs. 2- and 3-unit plans. No.29 is of 2 storeys and No.31 is single storey with attic. No.31 is 3-window range of 3-light stone mullion windows with drip moulds, the bay to the left is at a lower level. 3 stone half-dormers to attic with similar stone mullion windows with small roundels above. Central roundel above, under eaves. Central ashlar stack with 4 grouped flues and moulded stone cornices. Gable parapets and kneelers with all finials at eaves and apex. Left gable has two 2-light stone mullion windows with drip moulds, and roundel in apex. Blank shield above first floor window. Rear elevation has central gable which breaks forward and has small square, round and diamond shape single-light windows. No.29 is attached to right of No.31 and is a 3-window range of C20 casements in original openings under stone lintels. C20 lean-to extension to left of main front has C20 door and window. Gable parapets and ashlar s acks, with moulded cornices, at ridge and end. C19 single-storey extension to right. Interior of No.29 has open fireplace with bressumer. Interior of No.31 not inspected but said to have C17 moulded stone details. Said to have been built by the stone masons working at Kirby Hall (q.v.).

{5} [Former list description] Earlier C17. A small but elaborate house standing gable end to the road on a site sloping steeply away from the road. One storey and attic with a late slate roof, surmounted by a massive central quadruple chimney stack.
The high verges have ball finials on the apex and kneelers. Main front, facing east, has a central doorway with moulded four centre arch head, two high gabled dormers with ball finials and a 3-light
mullioned window with dripmould above which is a small circular light. There are two 3-light mullioned windows to the ground storey and above the doorway near the eaves is a small elliptical light. The gable end facing the road has a 2-light mullioned window to both storeys (mullion gone from ground storey. Above the upper window is a rectangular moulding enclosing a shield and above this there is a small elliptical light. There is a plain late doorway. There is a rough one-storey erection adjoining this end. On the West front there is a gabled projection with verges complete with ball finials. In the wall of this portion there are two elliptical lights and a one diamond light. This house has been divided into two separate dwellings.
