{4} In 1610, the Nether Lodge was said to be 'a very ancient lodge'. At this date, it comprised a small, stone and slated house containing a hall and kitchen with chambers above. To the north of the house was a thatched lean-to and to the west an adjoining building used as a dairy. The Lodge and outbuildings were set within a small close of about 7 acres enclosed with a dead hedge.
