Summary

Early 18th century house possibly built by the Dukes of Grafton as part of their estate. A rear range, originally stables with hay loft above, was remodelled in the late 19th/early 20th century to provide a vilage meeting hall.

Full Description

{1} House. C.1700 with C19 alterations. Coursed limestone rubble, plain-tile roof and massive ridge stack with 3 brick flues to stone base. 2 storeys and attic; 3-window range. 3-unit lobby-entry plan. C20 door to left of centre with moulded wood surround, straight hood and wood lintel. 16-pane sash windows to ground and 1st floors with wood lintels. Stone-coped gables with kneelers. Interior has ogee-stop-chamfered spine beams.

{4} Undated photo, also photo dated 29.10.1993.

{5} A targeted building recording was carried out which revealed a probable late 18th/19th-century bread oven within an earlier inglenook.
