Full Description

{1} Barn. Mid C18. Regular coursed limestone with pantile roof. Single unit barn. Central cart entrance under wood lintel with pitch holes to left and right. Gable parapets with ashlar kneelers.

{3} Poplars Barn is roughly oriented north-east to south-west, and consists of solid masonry walls supporting a timber roof covered with modern pantiles. Externally the building measures 45’ 5’’ (13.84m) long and 21 feet (6.40m) wide. The walls are about two feet thick (59-61cm). This is a three-bay barn, historically used for threshing corn or pulse crops within the central bay. The barn dates from the late 18th or early 19th century.

The stockyard is located to the south-east of the barn . The walls are mostly built of coursed limestone and ironstone rubble in lime mortar; these appear to date from the 19th century and may be contemporary with the barn. The north-west boundary formed the back wall of a shelter-shed shown on the early Ordnance Survey maps.
