Full Description

{1} Town house, now offices. Rear has datestone 1759, main front chimney stack has datestone SS/1799, some late C19 and C20 alterations. Squared coursed ironstone and brick with limestone ashlar facade and slate roof. Double-depth plan. Main front of 3 storeys. 5-window range. Central 6-panelled door has flanking side lights and large arched fanlight with glazing bars. Door surround has fluted stone columns with plain entablature and cornice over. Pairs of tall sash windows to left and right of entrance. Arches set in shallow arched recesses. First and second floor sashes also under flat arch heads; those at second floor reducing in height have glazing bars. Central first and second floor windows are Venetian style with arch heads and glazing bars. Flat string course between first and second floor and rusticated quoins at corners. Moulded stone cornice with parapet above. Rendered brick stacks to rear slope and ends. 2-storey wing of 4-window range to left is probably mid C18; ment windows have moulded stone surrounds. Moulded stone cornice, ashlar gable parapets and stone slate roof. Gable elevation to right of main front of chequered brickwork. Rear elevation of 2 storeys with attic was probably remodelled late C19. Large C20 extension attached is not of special architectural interest. Main entrance has flight of stone steps attached with iron headrail. Interior: entrance hall has staircase with quarter landings and balustrade in mid C18 style. Room to right has late C19 painted ceiling and matching door panels. Some 6-panelled doors, panelled window reveals and moulded plaster cornices.
