Full Description

{2} The lake was dug in the C19th reputedly by Irish Navvies. At the northern end of the lake is the former corn mill which pumped water from the lake to the new integrated iron, steel and tube works being developed at Corby.

{3} The mill is just east of the north end of the dam for Blatherwycke Lake. This ornamental lake was constructed c.1850 by the owners of Blatherwycke Hall. In 1932 Stewarts & Lloyds negotiated a lease of the lake with Major O'Brien to provide water for the tube-making works then being constructed at Corby. The bypass channel from the reservoir is related to this later development when the mill was no longer in use for milling. The Blatherwycke water supply was no longer needed after 1979 following the end of steel production at Corby.

{4} An ornamental lake later appeared in a private park at Blatherwycke.

{5} Blatherwycke Lake was under construction by 1817, and finished by 1824.
