Full Description

{1} Finds of Romano-British pot sherds. Tile/ brick and fired clay, animal bone and shell, hypocaust stone, wall plaster, slag, charcoal, tesserae, post medieval clay pipes and prehistoric flints.

{2} Fieldwalking undertaken for English Heritage over an area of c12ha around the Roman villa and its associated mosaics uncovered in 1992 established that the villa was of mid to late Roman date. Little evidence was found for any preceding Iron Age or succeeding Saxon settlement within the area walked.
