Full Description

{1} Much of the field containing the site is covered by ridge and furrow which runs on an east west alignment towards the brook. The ridges were approximately 0.25m to 0.30m high in a reverse S-shaped formation.

{2} The area contained parts of three major furlongs. Cultivation ridges were well preserved over much of the area, reaching a maximum of 0.5m in height. The three original furlongs had undergone alterations some relating to changes in the course of a stream, which affected the ploughing regime causing the formation of new headlands. Relatively little can be concluded from such a small part of a much larger field system.

{3} Medieval and post medieval pottery was evenly spread across the field suggesting that the material was largely dumped in rubbish or manure scatters. A minor Roman pottery scatter comprised heavily abraded material and is most likely to have been part of an earlier manuring.
