Full Description
{2}A long rectilinear enclosure was partially revealed across the excavated area aligned NNW/SSE measuring 116m long x 27m wide. The enclosure was defined by a long S/W ditch with curvilinear ditches at either end. The enclosure appeared to have had entrances at both ends. One of the curvilinear ditches measured 1.50m wide x 0.35m deep with a shallow profile and a concave base. The second curvilinear ditch was 1.28m wide x 0.31m deep. The only find from this feature was 1g of struck flint.
The long S/W ditch exhibited a bowl shaped profile with a concave base measuring 0.87m wide x 0.18m deep, a small amount of building material (2g) was recovered from the fill which may be daub. The southern arm of the enclosure exhibited steep sides and a flattish concave base. It was 1.65m wide and 0.4m deep. The excavated terminal section contained a cow horn. The N/E long arm of the enclosure exhibited moderately steep sides and concave base varying in profile along its length. A single circular pit was contained within the enclosure formed with a slightly irregular stepped profile. The pit contained Middle Iron to Late Iron Age pottery and struck flint.
