Full Description
{1} Syresham Hatch was also a member of the manor of Halse with Brackley and may in part represent the 2 hides of 1086 in Syresham, possibly the 1 small virgate of the 12th century survey?
{?} Mapping of Brackley Hatch extent dated 1825 taken from Project Server: Woodland Survey Files.
{5} The area of Silverstone circuit lay within the royal forest of Whittlebury. This was a royal game reserve, divided by Henry III into sections known as 'walks'. Medieval forests had a legal meaning, being areas subject to forest law (with its own courts and officials), within which game and timber were reserved for The Crown. Forests were neither exclusively wooded nor devoid of settlement, although forest legislation would have protected much of the land and limited the growth of settlement to some extent.
