Full Description
{1} The latest feature within Trench 1 was a large, roughly oval-shaped pit which extended beyond the limits of the excavation. In section the pit was c.1.4m wide x 0.76m deep. A single sherd of C17th Potterspury ware and a residual sherd of late Iron Age/Belgic ware came from its upper fill. The primary fill contained the articulated remains of two small pigs.
Later archaeological activity was confined to two pits and to the construction of the boundary wall. Both pits appear to date to the 17th century or later. One of the pits contained the articulated remains of two juvenile pigs, the circumstances of their burial or disposal remaining unknown.
