Description
{1} The construction of ten flats and a garage on land off Islington Road will affect an area of significant archaeological potential. Thus a condition was attached to consent comprising a two stage programme of archaeological investigation, a Stage 1 trial trench evaluation followed by a Stage 2 recording action or watching brief, depending on the results of Stage 1. the evaluation identified Roman remains which were sealed by a dark earth deposit, which apparently accumulated during the late to sub-Roman period. Its formation was attributed to a change from suburban settlement to agricultural production.
