Full Description

{1} It is possible that the name Sawpit Lane refers to the location of a former sawpit. The account book of Sponne’s Charity made first reference to the sawpit in c.1533-4, when four pence was paid for the carriage of timber to the sawpit and from the sawpit to the barn. And on another occasion a man was paid four pence for taking four loads of timber to the sawpit.
