Full Description

{1} A sequence of drainage ditches existed to either side of both the gravel surfaced agger and the metalled road surface. Two phases of ditching were evident on the east side of the road, the primary ditch was on the outer line and the subsequent ditch had in each instance cut away the inner edge of the silted up primary ditch, at no point did the entire profile of the primary ditch survive. Three phases of side ditch ran the entire length of the west side of the road and like those on the east side they drained northwards.
The lower fills of one of the ditches containd pottery of 1st-2nd century date, the finds may have been residual.
