Summary

A ring ditch at Grendon, part of a complex of cropmarks excavated in 1974-5 in advance of gravel extraction. The ring ditch was sub circular, with a maximum diameter of about 20 metres. Its eastern side had been completely obscured by a later, Iron Age, enclosure. The only feature which appears to have been definitely associated with the ring ditch was a subrectangular pit within the western half of the enclosed area. The only finds were a few flint flakes from the ring ditch.

Full Description

{1}The ring ditch had a maximum diameter of 20m and was possibly circular? A pit with its long axis aligned N-S was situated within the western half of the enclosure no finds were retrieved from its fill. At the base there was a stone band.
