Summary

A double ditched rectangular enclosure, probably a Roman farmstead was recorded on aerial photographs at this location. Roman pottery and a coin were also found here.

Full Description

{2}SP 849661, air photographs (in NMR) show a sub-rectangular double- ditched enclosure with an entrance on the W and pits in the NW and SE corners, and to the S of it is a second small enclosure and associated ditches. To the E, part of a double-ditched trackway is visible. In this field and the adjacent ones Roman pottery, including samian and grey wares, limestone, iron slag and worked flints have been discovered.

{3} SP 849 662. Crop-marks on air-photo. "This was discovered and photographed on 29th July, 1960. Graham Webster has examined the photograph and thinks the site is a Romano-British farmstead". [See AO/61/106/4 & 5].

{4/5} SP 848661. Cropmarks, pottery including samian and greyware, iron slag, and a small furnace revealed in 1967. Material in Northampton museum. Under corn crop. No surface indication of early occupation.

{6} A small rectangular enclosure found on air photographs at SP 8500 6604.

{7} SP 850662. A Roman coin AD 251-3 has been found.
