Full Description

{2} A documentary study of the site has yet to be undertaken, and while a recent local history suggests that the quarries were opened in the 1650's or early 1660's to provide building stone, some earlier use cannot be discounted. It is noted that quarries do not appear on either the unpublished Ordnance Surveyors plans of the early 19th century or the 1st Ed map of the area.
