Full Description

{3} In the grass field opposite the possible rabbit warren, is a set of very regularly set out and shallow fishponds (marked 'p' on the earthwork plan), fed by a stream following the line of the hollow way. Both warren and ponds in part overlie earlier settlement remains along the hollow way. Although in separate fields now, this was not always the case, since the hedge along the hollow way was not marked on the early map and the two modern fields then formed a single large parcel called 'Old Park', the name suggesting an amenity are going with Grafton House, which lay directly opposite. It is of some interest to note that when Henry VIII stayed at grafton he seems to have gone fishing since his accounts record the payment of 15 shillings to Michell Pylleson 'that gave an angle-rodde unto the king's grace at Grafton'.
