Summary

Mid 18th century ice house situated in Icehouse Spinney, Horton Park. It is constructed of red brick, comprises a tunnel vaulted passage leading to a domed chamber, covered by an earth mound.

Full Description

{1} To the west of the bridge is a ditched plantation called Icehouse Spinney, within which stands a mid C18th icehouse.

{2} Icehouse. Mid C18. Red brick. Tunnel-vaulted passage leading to domed chamber, covered by earth mound. Situated by a lake in former park of Horton Hall (demolished 1936) near The Green Bridge (q.v.).

{4} Earthworks of gardens, ponds, a canal and various mounds are located around the perimeter of the post medieval landscape park, including the mound of an ice house.
