Full Description
{1} Three sides of a trapezoidal enclosure (0.23ha in area) identified in cropmark. A linear ditch 315m long passes through the enclosure.
{3} A large, undated ditch of multiple phases aligned north to south follows the natural topography of the site, either on or just below the natural ridgeline. The date of the ditch is uncertain, as no dateable artefacts were recovered in the excavated sections. However, Iron Age and Roman features were identified in the immediate vicinity and the presence of Iron Age ditches and pits, some including possible industrial/hearth debris within the bounded area; along with early Iron Age features identified to the north of the site (Bush 2015) suggest that the ditch is of Iron Age origin and formed a boundary to an area of early to early middle Iron Age occupation located on the high ground to the north of Cotton Brook.
