Summary

The cropmark of a possible prehistoric ditch was identified during the Northants NMP. Additional cropmarks, possibly of a possible Iron Age or Roman enclosure, can be seen on aerial photographs and mapped as part of the Rutland Roman Villa Project.

Full Description

{2} Possible ditches;

NCCAP:SK9903/003+6(+);

{4} The cropmark of a possible Iron Age or Roman enclosure can be seen on HE Reconnaissance aerial photographs taken on 2nd June 2009. Three sides of this possible rectilinear enclosure can be seen at SK 9986 0393. It measures approximately 70m across.

{5-6} The cropmarks of a the possible Iron Age or Roman enclosure described above can be seen on aerial photographs at SK 9986 0393 and has been mapped as part of the Rutland Roman Villa Project. The main enclosure measures 65m x 65m, is defined by a single ditch with slightly curved corners and traces of further ditches, possibly enclosures to the north. The fragments of a possible double-ditched trackway aligned NW-SE (centred at SK 9971 0388) passes the enclosure 110m to the SW and a broken ditch 140m long with hints of two corners, possibly an enclosure, lies 185m to the south at SK 9983 0373.
