Description

This survey identified the site of a large Roman villa complex as well as evidence of Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age ritual sites and traces of settlement and division of the landscape across the area from the Bronze Age to the present day. Natural resources of Limestone (for building and roofing) and Ironstone have been exploited locally since at least the Iron Age with evidence of historic extraction visible across the area, possibly resulting in a high density of high status settlements from the Roman through post medieval periods.
