Full Description

{1}{2}{3}{4} Plans.

{1} A possible entrance lies on the south side of the enclosure.

{2} The history and date of the monument are unknown; its position, name and form suggests that it is a medieval defensive ringwork.

{4} A roughly triangular earthwork bounded by a ditch and inner bank, which survives only on the west and north up to 2.5m deep x 1.5m high. There is a short length of later stone rubble walling on top of the bank. Later features within include a small circular mound 0.4m high in the south-west corner. Lengths of ditch, scarps and banks up to 0.3m high may mark the sites of former buildings. Ridge and furrow ploughing has reduced the inner bank as a headland. The enclosure's shape and secondary use might indicate a pre-medieval origin which has possibly been re-used in the medieval period as a manorial centre.

{7} Earthwork 120m x 90m; it is delineated on the north and west by a wide ditch between 2.5m and 4m deep.
