Summary

Cropmarks of a possible prehistoric pit alignment identified on aerial photographs. Subsequently verified by trial trenching. Geophysical survey identified a linear feature which may have replaced the pit alignment.

Full Description

{1} Cropmark of a pit alignment, seen on aerial photos NCCAP:SP6659/004-5;

{2} 3 pits were seen in trench 9, all measuring approx 0.8m in diameter and between 0.17 and 0.3m deep. One pit contained a single sherd of abraded probable late Bronze Age pottery. These pits probably represent the eastern edge of the pit alignment.

{3} Geophysical survey undertaken in 2022 identified a linear feature that may have replaced the pit alignment. The pits were not identified.
