Site of Medieval leper hospital outside the north gate of the town. It was recorded in 1301 and 1322. It had probably ceased to exist by 1360.

{1} Little known of short history of leper hospital at Walbeck; mentioned twice in Episcopal Registers at Lincoln; in 1301 Bishop Dalderby granted 15 days indulgence to benefactors of sick men in Hospital of "Walebek" without Northampton; in 1303 Bishop Burghersh whilst visiting Abington granted 20 days indulgence; further record of mid C14th misdeeds at Hospital in one of Coroner's Rolls; Walbeck was situated in Kingsthorpe Hollow & took its name from stream there;

{2} Site of Walbeck Leper Hospital probably lies in Kingsthorpe Hollow; earliest known record of hospital is in first half of C13th when it is said to lie 'without North Gate of town'; not recorded after 1347.

{3} Hospital of Walbek was lazar house & situated by North Gate of Northampton; mention of only two C14th diocesan references granting indulgencies; name Walbek occurs in corporation deed of 1360;

{4} Walbeck occurs in one of corporation deeds of 1360; Sir Paynel Gobion granted life lease of 16 acres of land lying without North Gate & on each side of king's highway from St Bartholomew's Church to Walbeck;

{5} Bishop Dalderby granted an indulgence of fifteen days to all benefactors of the sick men in the Hospital of 'Walbeck' without Northampton.

{6} March 28th, 1303 Bishop Burghersh granted twenty days indulgence to the poor lepers of the Hospital of Walbeck without the North Gate of Northampton.

{7} Walbeck situated in what is now known as Kingsthorpe Hollow & takes its name from beck or brook;

{8} Hospital of Walbeck;

{9} Probably dated to first half of C13th; Will Tylli; cannot be earlier because established after founding of Holy Trinity Hospital in Kingsthorpe;

{10} Leper hospital outside North Gate recorded in 1301 & 1322;

{12} Leper Richard de Wynwyck found dead in Walbeck Hospital; coroner & other witnesses testified that man had been struck on head with hatchet by Henry of Ashebourne who was a servant at Hospital; servant had fled after slaying another leper Roger of Aylesbury;
