Monument record 4622/0/9 - Possible Prehistoric Enclosure (Morphed Aerial Archaeology Interpretation)

Crop/soilmark: Good quality photography. No finds were recovered from the enclosure ditch during trial trench excavation, although a pit inside the enclosure contained a considerable amount of middle Iron Age pottery

{2} Identified as probable archaeology during the geophysical survey;

{3} A rectilinear feature was identified both by cropmark evidence and geophysical survey. The cropmark defines an enclosure measuring 44m by 53m at its widest point, with a c. 6m wide gap located centrally along its eastern side, which would presumably have formed an entranceway. A section through the south-western ditch was excavated during the trial trench excavation. The ditch measured 2.4m wide and was excavated to a depth of 0.8m without the base being reached. No finds were recovered from the ditch fills.
