Full Description
{1} The mound comprised sandstone-derived soils. A ring-ditch was located at 8.6m from the centre of the mound, indicating an original diameter of c 17m, and was covered by material derived from the mound. Outside the ring ditch two other features were located. One was a small pit which contained sherds of a 'collared miniature urn' (usually a cremation vessel); the other was a stakehole. These features indicate the potentially good survival of features associated with the round barrow, at least in areas where the subsoil has been protected by the spread of the mound. It seems probable that the earthwork represents the original barrow-mound.
