Monument record 394/1/1 - Possible Medieval Moat (Morphed Aerial Archaeology Interpretation)

Earthwork: Non-destructive fieldwork

{1} A small homestead moat consisting of a ditch up to 2.5m deep surrounding a sub-rectangular island; it is probably the site of a medievla manor house.

{2} The moated site covers an area about 75m x 60m and lies in the north west corner of the deserted medieval village. The four sided moat island is of irregular shape and is completely surrounded by a ditch. The moat may be the site of the manor house of the village, or a homestead farm.

{4} The defensive ditch of the moat is linked with the outfall of the fishpond.
