Full Description
{2} This feature was originally a sandstone quarry but its base has been flattened and spoil from it pushed out westwards to create a large platform. The whole area was then apparently planted with trees, the stumps of about 10 or 12 of which still survive, together with some tree holes. The quarry and the platform have a low bank and external ditch surrounding them, presumably marking a former hedge.
Sandstone Pit cut into Northampton Sand and was probably dug for road metal. It was reused in the early 18th century as the site of a copse and so is presumably 1 7th-century or earlier.
