Full Description

{3} What appears to be the earliest part of the site consists of a tall conical motte, now 7.25m high, with a surrounding ditch and a small sub-rectangular bailey on its north east side.

{6} The motte is of a truncated conical shape. It is approx. 6m above the original land surface, the slightly domed top extending to c.80m square. When constructed, it is probable that the motte was slightly higher, with a larger plateau and steeper sides.
