Summary

Earthwork of a circular mound 20m in diameter and 1.25m high with a flat top and a central depression. Described as a tumulus on historic mapping, but it is more likely to be a windmill mound.

Full Description

{1} Marked as tumulus on OS 1" map.

{2} A circular mound c.20m diameter x 1.25m high, with a flat top. The latter has a central depression. There is no trace of a surrounding ditch. Although described as a tumulus on the first edition OS maps it is almost certainly the site of a windmill.

{8} Windmill mound (SP 56417671) lies S of the village, on the upper edge of a S-facing slope on glacial gravel at about 105 m. above OD. It consists of a circular mound 20 m. in diam. And 1.25 m. high with a flat top and a central depression in it. There is no trace of a surrounding ditch. Although described a a 'tumulus' on the 1st ed OS 1" map it is almost certainly the site of a windmill.
