Full Description
{1} The cropmark remains of a probable Iron Age or Roman settlement and associated trackway were seen centred at SP 5455 4780. The site appears as a number of conjoined rectilinear ditch-defined enclosures attached to the northern and southern sides of a length of NW-SE aligned trackway which can be traced for approximately 185m. The track is defined by two parallel ditches. The cropmarks of the enclosures on the southern side are less distinct. A number of pits were also recorded toward the eastern end of the site which could also be associated with the settlement.
{2} The cropmark remains of a group of three probable Iron Age or Roman rectilinear enclosures which could be seen centred as a group at SP 5457 4763. All are ditch defined. The larger enclosure is incomplete ( the south-eastern side obscured by the modern field boundary) and measures approximately 44m in width and at least 46m in length. Adjacent to this at SP 5455 4766 is a smaller sub-rectangular enclosure measuring 18m x 21m. To the north-west is an incomplete enclosure at SP 5451 4765 which measures approximately 16m across.
These features were mapped from aerial photographs as part of the Northamptonshire NMP project and have subsequently seen on aerial photographs taken by English Heritage in July 2006.
