Full Description
{1} Owners from about 1900 E.P.Davies, from 29th September 1930 South Durham Steel & Iron Co Ltd; closure in 1971. The date of opening is usually quoted as 1902 but if the first quarries were shallow enough they could have commenced earlier without being recorded. The area used was about 1000acres then forming a block running east from the Kettering/Uppingham road to Geddington, north from Weekley Hall Wood to a couple of fields north of the Geddington to Rushton road. Because the quarries were remote from the villages the company built cottages for the workpeople. Six were built in Grange Road, Geddington and another twelve on the main Kettering to Uppingham road. The quarries were closed in 1934 but activity was restarted in January 1940 and production commenced in May 1940 eventually closing in 1971.
