Full Description

{1} Known operating dates 1869-1919. This large yard was under the ownership of George Savage (his executors for the last years) until about 1914. He eventually owned yards at Towcester Stoke Bruerne and Greens Norton. In 1866 there were four kilns at work here. Since those working at the other yards he owned were all updraught, those also were probably of this type. Convenient transport for his wares was provided by the proximity of the Northampton Arm of the Grand Junction Canal. Around the WWI period the yard was taken over by W.Asplin, who leased the land from the Duke of Grafton on a royalty. All the buildings belonged to the tenant but the landlord had the right to take them by valuation.

{2} A large brickyard with four kilns; operated by George Savage until about 1914.
