Full Description
{1} Pottery recovered as follows: 55 x Iron Age wares, 17 x Romano-British wares, 1 x Early/Middle Saxon chaff-tempered, 1 x 450-850 Early-Middle Saxon handmade wares, 1 x 725-850 Ipswich ware.
A complete ceramic sequence was recovered stretching from the Iron Age through to the early modern period. 4 sherds of early medieval pottery indicate intensive use of this area at this period. The recovery of 50 sherds of Iron Age pottery place this above occupation. Again, negative features cut into the natural were revealed producing Iron Age, Romano-British and early medieval pottery. Sketched sections and plan.
{2} Test pits sunk 100m south-east of the church produced quantities of Iron Age pottery (in one instance over 50 sherds from a single 1m x 1m test pit) in association with features cut into the natural.
