Full Description

{1} Ironworking in Heyford parish between 1866 & 1891; site was later used as brickworks;

{2} The Stowe Works was set up by the Nine Churches Iron Ore Co. Which was formed in 1875 to take over the operation of Stowe Ironworks and Lodge Plantation quarries. By 1889 there was a large works here with 3 kilns, probably updraughts. The-ironworks was closed in 1892 and the works area taken over by George King and Son (later the Blisworth and Stowe BriCk and Tile Co) By 1900 the works had further expanded and there was rail connection to the LN.W.R. As well as tramways (2'11" gauge) in the quarry on the south west side of the works. From 1923 Henry Ltd. Of Northampton assumed control of the yard until it was taken over in 1940 by the Department as an ammunition dump.
A rectangular continuous kiln still reMains on the site. This has 14 chambers, and is in a derelict condition.
