Summary

The Towcester, Roade and Olney Junction Railway was proposed in 1879 to connect the East and West Junction railway to the Birmingham to Bristol main line and the Leicester to London route. At the time it was already operating as the Easton Neston Mineral Railway. The line was completed in 1891. Passenger trains ran between 1892 and 1893 only, goods traffic continued until 1952. The line was dismantled in 1964.

Full Description

{4} The Towcester, Roade and Olney Junction Railway was proposed in 1879 to connect the East and West Junction railway to the Birmingham to Bristol main line and the Leicester to London route. At the time of its proposal, the railway was already operating as the Easton Neston Mineral Railway. The line was completed in 1891; when amalgamated with the East and West Junction Railway it was known s the Stratford upon Avon, Towcester and Midland Junction Railway. In 1908 this was shortened to the Stratford upon Avon and Midland Junction Railway. Passenger trains ran between 1892 and 1893 only although goods traffic continued until 1952. The line was dismantled in 1964.

{5} The Towcester, Roade and Olney Junction Railway was floated in 1879 at which time it was a mineral railway, passenger trains running between Olney and Towcester only between 1892 and 1893, goods traffic continuing until 1952. It was amalgamated with the East and West Junction Railway in 1879 to form the Stratford upon Avon, Towcester and Midland Junction Railway, which later became the Stratford upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway. The line was dismantled in 1964.
